It is also helpful to ensure that what motivates an employee is available in the position. For instance, if the employee is highly motivated by learning, but the job does not offer opportunities to learn new concepts, that will likely lead to job dissatisfaction. Similarly, if the compensation is based on commission, it would be preferable to have someone who is motivated, at least in part, by earning money.
